What to Expect During a Drain Camera Inspection

If you’ve never had a drain camera inspection before, you might wonder what the process involves. It’s actually straightforward, non-invasive, and one of the most informative services we offer.

Here’s a step-by-step look at what typically happens when we perform a drain camera inspection at your property in Greater Vancouver.

Step 1: Initial Consultation

When we arrive, we’ll ask you a few questions about:

  • The problems you’re experiencing (slow drains, recurring clogs, odors, wet spots, etc.)
  • Any previous drain work or cleaning
  • The age of your home and plumbing system

This helps us know which lines to prioritize during the inspection.

Step 2: Accessing the Drain Lines

We’ll locate the best access points — usually cleanouts, drain openings, or the main sewer line. No major digging is required at this stage.

Step 3: Inserting the Camera

We insert a flexible rod with a high-resolution, self-leveling camera head into the pipe. The camera sends live video to a monitor so we (and you, if you wish) can see the inside of the pipes in real time.

Step 4: Thorough Inspection

We slowly push the camera through the line while recording. We carefully examine:

  • The condition of the pipe walls
  • Any cracks, separations, or collapses
  • Tree root intrusion
  • Grease, sludge, or debris buildup
  • Joint integrity
  • French drains and drain tile systems (when accessible)

Step 5: Digital Report and Recommendations

After the inspection, we provide:

  • A clear video recording of the lines
  • Photos of any issues found
  • A written summary with our findings
  • Honest recommendations with different repair options (if needed)

The entire process usually takes between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on how many lines we inspect.

Is the Process Disruptive?

Not at all. We work cleanly and respectfully:

  • No mess left behind
  • No need to move furniture in most cases
  • We explain everything as we go
  • You’re welcome to watch the live footage

A camera inspection gives you clear answers instead of guessing — which often saves time and money on unnecessary repairs.
